Tigres Tops Houston Dynamo 4-1 in Leagues Cup Opener

Houston Dynamo FC suffered a tough 4-1 loss to Tigres UANL on Tuesday night in the opening match of the 2025 Leagues Cup, in front of a sold-out crowd of 21,792 at Shell Energy Stadium. Despite a competitive first half and a goal from Ondřej Lingr early in the second, defensive mistakes proved costly for Houston.

The match remained even early on, with goalkeeper Jonathan Bond making multiple key saves to keep Dynamo level. However, Tigres struck first in stoppage time of the first half, when Ángel Correa finished off a long ball from Juan Brunetta.

Houston quickly responded after the break, capitalizing on a Tigres turnover that led to Lingr’s equalizer in the 48th minute. But momentum shifted again when Bond’s errant pass led to a Diego Lainez goal. Tigres extended their lead to 3-1 after a misplayed back pass gave Correa a clear path to score. Jonathan Ozziel Herrera sealed the win with a late goal.

Next up, the Dynamo will face Mazatlán FC on Friday, Aug. 1, and Pachuca on Tuesday, Aug. 5 — both at Shell Energy Stadium with 7:30 p.m. kickoffs.
