In a clash of undefeated teams, Texas Tech turned up the heat and brought the chaos to Houston, cruising to a 35-11 victory at TDECU Stadium on Saturday night. And yes — the tortillas were flying early.
The Red Raiders wasted no time setting the tone, capitalizing on two early Houston turnovers and scoring on each of their first five drives. It was a fast and furious start that had Texas Tech fans tossing tortillas before the Cougars even found the end zone.
Houston managed to hold Tech to three early field goals, keeping the game within reach at 9-3 after a 24-yard kick from Ethan Sanchez late in the first quarter. But the Red Raiders were just getting warmed up.
Moments later, Behren Morton connected with Cameron Dickey on a 69-yard bomb that silenced the home crowd and stretched the lead to 16-3. Running back J’Koby Williams added a 5-yard touchdown on the ground, and Stone Harrington chipped in a 26-yard field goal to make it 24-3 by halftime.
The Cougars showed signs of life when Zeon Chriss-Gremillion, stepping in for the injured Conner Weigman, hit Amare Thomas for a stunning 64-yard touchdown, trimming the lead to 25-11 just before halftime.
But Texas Tech clamped down in the second half, adding a field goal from Upton Bellenfant and another short TD run from Williams, who finished with two scores on the night.
With tortillas flying, the scoreboard lighting up, and the defense holding strong, it was a statement win for the Red Raiders — one that proved they’re not just about gimmicks and gameday antics. They’re here to win — and to do it loudly.
