U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos addressed Christian media and ministry professionals on February 26 during the NRB 2020 Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
“The theme of freedom was woven throughout Secretary DeVos’ remarks at our national convention,” commented Janet Parshall, Chairman of the Board for NRB, the association that annually hosts the NRB Convention.
“She reminded us how this Administration is working diligently to ensure freedom for parents through scholarship dollars as well as the diligent efforts being made to enhance school choice by eliminating arcane legislation that discriminates against faith-based schools,” Parshall continued. “But most encouraging of all was to hear the Secretary share how her faith is the basis for all she does. The Secretary of Education received a much-deserved standing ovation at the conclusion of her remarks. We were honored to have her as a part of our convention.”
The secretary commended President Trump for signing an executive order recently “basically clarifying and restating what we all know to be the case under the First Amendment — that we should be able to freely express our faith” in public schools.
Too many school districts and even states “have not allowed for that free expression of students, whether it be to pray before lunch or to have a club with some of their fellow students after school,” DeVos said.
