The 2024 Super Bowl has been blessed with a halftime performance by a legend who has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, won eight Grammys, and 18 Billboard Music Awards. This icon is Usher, and he will be headlining the Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Allegiant Stadium, which is home to the Las Vegas Raiders, and will be sponsored by Apple Music.
Not only are fans already screaming with joy over this year’s headliner, but they are also obsessed with how it was announced. It’s a spinoff from his hit song, “Confessions, Pt. II,” where Kim Kardashian calls him and informs him he’ll be singing the halftime show. It works perfectly and inflicts a feeling of nostalgia with clips from his 2004 music video. Apple Music also recreated the spinoff using the old clips of Usher, talking to his current self, and it is incredibly genius.
Back in 2019 the NFL created a partnership with Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s label, that allowed him to directly help the NFL’s entertainment programming. Since then we’ve had performances from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, The Weekend, and Rihanna. Jay-Z called Usher to break the news and at first Usher was confused but Jay-Z went on to say, “It’s time, it’s magic time, it’s time for you to have that moment.” It sounds like he has been ready for nothing else but this moment, the final bucket list mark. Usher says, “We’re really excited about the entire thing—obviously a legacy, but the fact that this is the grandest stage to ever play on.”
Usher is a 44 year old award-winning singer, songwriter, and dancer born in Dallas, Texas. He has established himself as one of the most successful and famous R&B artists of his era and one of the best-selling musicians in history. Usher has had a residency in Las Vegas at Park MGM that he has now extended to the end of 2023. He will be ending his time in Las Vegas with a bang, and fans are excited to see if he can top Rihanna’s killer performance from last year which attracted 121.017 million viewers. The NFL has talked about their need for the highest level of entertainment for one of the most watched events of the year in the past, Rihanna did just that, and now it is Usher’s turn.
With so many hit songs, it will be a pleasant surprise to see how he sets up his halftime concert, and I know we will all be on the edge of our seats. What will he do to separate himself from the old performers? How will he make this show in Vegas different from all the others?
Tune in Sunday, February, 11th, and find out what magic Usher has to give. The game and
halftime performance will air on CBS with a kickoff of 3:30pm.
