Vice President Kamala Harris energized Nashville on Tuesday during a Tennessee Democratic Party rally at Hadley Park. Several hundred supporters gathered just hours before her scheduled book-tour appearance at the Ryman Auditorium.
State Reps. Harold Love, and John Ray Clemmons joined the event, along with state Sen. Charlane Oliver, Metro Councilmember Delishia Porterfield, and other local leaders. Harris was introduced by state Rep. Justin Jones, who affectionately called her “my auntie, Madam Vice President,” drawing cheers from the crowd.
Speaking about the upcoming Dec. 2 special election for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, Harris urged attendees to keep organizing and showing up. “People around the nation are watching you,” she said. “Your activism over the next two weeks will have an impact on people you may never meet.”
TNDP Chair Rachel Campbell said the rally reflects a growing “appetite for change” in the state, adding that Democrats are committed to showing up and speaking directly to Tennesseans.
“Why am I here in Tennessee?” Harris asked. “Because I know the power is in the South.”
Early voting is now open as Democrat Aftyn Behn faces Republican Matt Van Epps in the special election. S/O John Smith Marketing for the invite.
