Vice President Kamala Harris visited the “Tennessee Three,” who came to the national forefront when Representatives Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, Justin Jones, D-Nashville, and Justin Pearson, D-Memphis, faced expulsion from the Tennessee State House of Representatives due to protesting on the floor of the House Chamber on March 30th.
On Thursday, April 6th, Representatives Jones and Pearson were expelled after hours of debate, while Representative Johnson was spared by a single vote.
While the crowd waited for VP Harris to speak at Fisk University’s Memorial Chapel in Nashville, the crowd stood and sang “This Little Light of Mine.”
The Vice President spoke of the passion of the Representatives as well as the need to protect children after the shooting at Covenant School, which led to the deaths of six people, including three 9-year-olds.
