MIAMI GARDENS, FL — Health, community and meaningful conversations took center stage on Saturday, October 17, as Walmart transformed its Miami Gardens Supercenter into a hub for wellness, education and empowerment.
The community-focused event brought together celebrities, healthcare professionals and local families for an afternoon dedicated to mental health awareness, preventive care, nutrition and maternal wellness.
Among the day’s highlights was a powerful mental health discussion hosted by Doc n’ da Dude, the dynamic duo of licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Kendell Jasper (The Doc) and Kainon Jasper (The Dude).
The pair joined Miami Heat legend and NBA Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning for a Mental Health Awareness Panel that encouraged attendees to confront the stigma surrounding mental illness, particularly within underserved communities.
With Kainon Jasper also serving as a moderator, the conversation challenged participants to look beyond the “digital smiles” often displayed on social media and acknowledge the emotional struggles and invisible health challenges people face every day.
The message was clear: Mental health matters, and honest conversations can help break down barriers to seeking support.
Star Power Meets Community Impact
The Miami Gardens event featured an impressive lineup of familiar faces and respected advocates, including two-time Grammy Award-winning singer and actress LeToya Luckett, actor and wellness advocate Dr. Lamman Rucker, and internationally recognized midwife and maternal health advocate Jennie Joseph.
Beyond the celebrity appearances, the gathering placed a strong emphasis on maternal health equity and the challenges facing mothers and infants, particularly in communities of color.
Attendees also experienced segments from The Ebony Canal, a documentary examining racial disparities in maternal and infant mortality across America. The screening helped bring greater awareness to the importance of equitable healthcare, safer childbirth experiences and community-driven solutions.
Bringing Wellness Directly to the Community
Walmart’s wellness initiative went beyond conversations, offering attendees access to preventive health resources, including blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol screenings, along with affordable immunizations and flu shots.
Guests also enjoyed product samples, educational discussions and opportunities to connect with speakers and wellness advocates.
For Doc n’ da Dude, the event represented another opportunity to use their platform to make conversations about mental health more approachable, relatable and impactful.
By combining professional psychological expertise with real-world perspectives, Dr. Kendell Jasper and Kainon Jasper continue to encourage individuals and families to prioritize emotional well-being alongside physical health.
Exclusive Access was on the scene in Miami Gardens, capturing the speakers, celebrity guests and community moments from an afternoon dedicated to health, healing and empowerment.
