BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Hundreds of people packed a Brentwood conference room Wednesday night as Tennessee gubernatorial candidate and Memphis City Councilwoman Jerri Green held a town hall focused on hearing directly from voters.
The turnout quickly filled the conference room, with attendees standing along the walls and throughout the hallway while others found seats on the floor as the crowd gathered to hear from Green.
The town hall was moderated by TN Holler founder Justin Kanew, who began the evening with a one on one conversation with Green, asking questions about her campaign, her vision for Tennessee and the issues she believes are important to voters across the state.
Following the opening interview, Kanew opened the floor to members of the audience, giving attendees an opportunity to ask Green questions directly.
The format created a more open exchange between the candidate and voters, with questions coming from people in the room rather than being limited to prepared remarks.
Green’s Brentwood appearance was part of a broader series of public events listed by her campaign across Tennessee. Her campaign has emphasized open, public town halls as a way for voters and members of the press to engage directly with her.
The Brentwood event also came during an active period in the Tennessee governor’s race. Green’s campaign had proposed several dates for debates with Republican nominee Marsha Blackburn, including September 30 in Brentwood. Blackburn’s campaign has said she would not participate in those proposed debates.
For those inside the Brentwood room Wednesday night, however, the focus was on the opportunity to hear from Green directly and ask questions about the issues facing Tennessee.
