Atlanta Falls 3-1 After Columbus’ Quick Second-Half Strikes

Atlanta United FC suffered a 3-1 loss to Columbus Crew on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, as a strong second-half performance from the visitors proved decisive.

After a quiet first half with limited chances, Atlanta’s best opportunity came from Steven Alzate, whose long-range effort was handled by Columbus goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. At the other end, Lucas Hoyos made key saves to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.

Columbus took control early in the second half with two quick goals from Wessam Abou Ali. He opened the scoring in the 48th minute with a header and added a second just minutes later with a powerful strike from distance.

Atlanta responded in the 60th minute when Alexey Miranchuk scored his fourth goal of the season after initial attempts from Elías Báez and captain Miguel Almirón were saved. However, the comeback was short-lived, as Max Arfsten restored Columbus’ two-goal lead just a minute later.

Atlanta struggled to create clear chances for the remainder of the match, while Hoyos made late saves to prevent further damage. In stoppage time, head coach Tata Martino was shown a red card following a sideline incident.

The match also featured season debuts for Homegrown players Will Reilly and Jay Fortune.

Atlanta United will look to bounce back on April 11 when they travel to face the Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field.
