One Chance, One Goal: LAFC Steals It in Minnesota

Clouds over Allianz Field matched the mood at full time.

Minnesota United FC controlled the run of play, created the better chances, and still walked away empty-handed in a frustrating 1-0 loss to Los Angeles FC snapping a six-match unbeaten streak.

A rotated XI from head coach Cameron Knowles brought a new look and plenty of energy. All eyes were on James Rodríguez in his first MLS start, and he delivered flashes of brilliance  spraying passes, unlocking space, and dictating tempo like a veteran playmaker.

But LAFC struck first and only. In the 9th minute, David Martínez buried a clinical left-footed finish, flipping the script early. From there, LAFC did what they do best: sit compact, stay disciplined, and force Minnesota to break them down.

The Loons kept knocking.

They outshot LAFC heavily, controlled possession, and pushed the pace in the second half. Hugo Lloris stood tall in goal, turning away Minnesota’s best looks and preserving the slim lead.

Late substitutions added fresh legs, and the pressure never let up  but the equalizer never came.

Final whistle: dominant performance, zero points.

Still, plenty to build on. Rodríguez looked every bit the difference-maker, and the squad’s depth got valuable minutes as the schedule tightens.

Minnesota stays fourth in the West — and right back at it midweek.
