Uzbekistan Chooses Atlanta as Home Base for Historic First World Cup

As teams from around the world arrive in the United States for the FIFA World Cup, the Uzbekistan National Team has found a home away from home in Atlanta.

Making its first-ever World Cup appearance, Uzbekistan will use Atlanta United’s state-of-the-art training facility as its official base camp throughout the tournament. The team arrived on June 10 and will have access to dedicated training pitches, meeting rooms, recovery facilities, classrooms, and performance spaces designed to help players prepare at the highest level.

Atlanta’s facility holds a unique distinction during the World Cup. Not only will it serve as Uzbekistan’s home base, but it is also one of only a handful of sites across North America designated as both a team base camp and a venue-specific training site for visiting teams preparing for matches in the region.

The training center recently underwent significant upgrades with major international tournaments in mind, including the FIFA World Cup, Copa América, and Club World Cup. Players have access to advanced recovery technology, altitude simulation rooms, modern fitness equipment, and customized training environments designed to replicate match conditions.

To ensure Uzbekistan feels at home, facility staff have even adjusted schedules to accommodate the team’s preferred training routines and cultural practices.

Led by legendary Italian defender and World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro, Uzbekistan enters the tournament as one of the event’s newcomers. Drawn into a challenging group featuring Portugal, Colombia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the team faces a difficult path to the knockout stage. However, with an expanded 48-team tournament creating more opportunities for advancement, hopes remain high that Uzbekistan could emerge as one of the competition’s surprise stories.

For now, Atlanta will serve as the launching point for a historic chapter in Uzbekistan football history as the nation prepares to compete on the world’s biggest stage for the first time.
